Got a remote seatpost (rase) but I don't like the handlebar release, so I was thinking of swapping it for something else. I run a 1x9 setup, so my thought was to use a left-hand (front mech) shifter. Trouble is, the end of the cable that goes into the handlebar release is unterminated - that is to say it is just a cable, which is clamped in place with a grub screw. I can't get to the other end of the cable, but I believe it is termanated (ie the cable is just a standard gear or brake cable, but the 'wrong way round') - as a result I can't just lop in a new cable the other way round.
So - what are my options? do any shifters have an option of using a non-terminated cable? or is there a way of adding a 'termination' to a normal cable (getting length right might be an issue after doing this)
Cheers

Just clamp a nut and bolt on to the end of it.
Would the inner brass connector from a small (3 amp) terminal block be suitable. Have used these as makeshift repairs in the past.

crimp and glue a piece of split brass on the end like a nipple?
IIRC you used to be able to buy some sorts of nipple you could put onthe cable - not that small though.
Try putting a big blob of solder on it - it can them be filed to shape afterwards.
Would a cable swage work? Generally they're used for putting a loop in a cable, but an appropriate sized one could be trimmed to fit maybe?
Or something like this?

edit: Or this one fits a 1.0mm to 1.5mm cable...
