[#740615]

need to buy some as i'm fitting a front mech to a bike that's not had one previously and the shifters i got just have the inners with them.
problem is, what diameter do i need as i'm aware there's either 4mm or 5mm available. does it make any real difference?
also, where's the best place to get some from?
thanks.

at my LBS they offered me either - the 5 mm outer had the weave like a brake cable outer. The 44 had the much more longitudinally stiff weave so should be better for shifting.

they used to say that you needed the thinner, stiff cable for indexed systems.

i don't really want to spend 30 odd quid on cable outer, even if it is 10 metres long (which, to be fair, would probably last me about 20 years!)...
i'll scout around for some shorter length of 4mm stuff then.
