Bog standard stuff, and throw some good grease in one end with a grease gun before putting the cable through

I suspect it works out better to just buy the cheapest and replace it a bit more often.

Teflon coated inners are nice though.

SP41, 10m's worth from parkers internation, expensive initally, but cheaper in the long run.

EDIT: No idea if it;s the 'best' but it work well, much better than the nokon cables I tried previously

not a vast pit of knowledge but interested as tried gore ride on and thought ok but not wow - with the sram flakjackets impressed with design and shifting is great but is it just me or do the cables stretch way way more than others?

Gore RideOn ftw. Slightly more expensive up front, and you should take your time putting them on, but worth it in the long run.

Yokozuna or Nokon?

Not sure what's available, might be worth looking into.

SP41 is already grease filled in my experience.

Shimano XTR (or SP41 to give it it's correct code).

Jagwire.

Inners and outers both far nicer than Shimano and not that much more expensive.

Use a standard gear cable in BMX linear cable outer - available in loadsa colours. It's linear construction (similar to gear outer) not spiral wound like standard brake outer - only difference is that you'll need 5mm ferrules instead of the 4mm used on current gear outer.

Fit a Middleburn cable oiler or two and you can mix and match colours too 😛

Next time i change mine which will be soon i'll be going for sp41, currently using goodridge outer on my soul and it's really crap quality, not flexible enough (it's broken at the rear mech loop) and eats your frame finish much faster than normal outer if you don't protect it.

Jagwire

Just in case you are tempted the jagwire kits won't work for full length runs although they will arrange for you to get more if you can be arsed going back to the shop and asking for it 🙁

Or just buy a shed load of sp41, some middle burn oilers and never worry about it again

Middleburn oilers create more of a problem than they solve.

Why cut a continuous length of cable to fit them when you can use a cable oiler device from either end and just blast GT85 in until it runs out the other end?

Alternatively just periodically remove the cable inner and regrease as required. Pretty simple really..

My LBS has Jagwire loose on a reel. They just cut the required inner and outer lengths as required. Nice shiny ferrules too. The whole lot cost around £8 for an Alfine hub. Job's a good 'un!

Because it's easy and it works.

But a cable oiler at either end would work as well. Take yer pick

Shimano SP41. I've used loads of cables, including Goretex and Flak Jackets and full lengths of SP41 are much better and cheaper.

Gore RideOn for me - fit and forget, particularly with full length outers - should literally last for years.

Initially a but more money and a minor faff to fit if you haven't used it before, but the smoothest shifting I have ever experienced.

Am sure normal cable is cheaper and fitting middleburn oilers might help keep them lubed, but I reckon the Gore stuff could outlast 2 or 3 sets of normal stuff and save a couple of hours of maintenance over the years so well worth it IMHO.

Can't imagine ever using anything else again and I was sceptical at first.
