Hi,
I'm just doing an update in my garmin edge 8.10.
It was last updated on 23.4.16.
Garmin express says there is update 6.10. Against my better judgement I decided to update.
It goes to initializing with a progress bar but just doesn't do anything.
Is the update worth it.
Any suggestions to fix it or Should I just cancel it?

My experience with Garmin firmware is to leave well alone unless the update does something useful you want/need or fixes a bug you need a fix for. They are well known to bugger things up worse than they were before.
Also, Garmin Express tends to insist on updating the firmware whether you like it or not. I uninstalled it and just copy files direct by USB or sync with Connect on the phone. There are still other ways to update the firmware without Express anyway if you really need to, e.g. Garmin WebUpdater ( http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp)
FWIW I've got a 510 and I'm still on 4.40 though 6.10 is available. Nothing in the change notes of interest between the two versions.
