How good is the Garmin Topo Software for the Garmin Edge 705.
Im considering buying the northern UK version but wanted to know if anyone has an experience of it before i splash the cash
Thanks
Not very IMO. I've got it on my 605 and having recently replaced it with the free OSM version, I'll be sticking with OSM which is better I reckon. I definitely wouldn't pay for Topo.
Download the map from here and install as suggested

Nice one clubber thats very useful to know.
Now the dumb technophobe question.........how would you get that info on the GPS unit?
Thanks
Follow the instructions ๐ on that site
basically:
- download the file and extract it to your desktop
- plug in your garmin and once the computer recognises it like a USB removeable disc/memory stick, copy the file to the Garmin folder on the unit.
- rename the file GMAPSUPP.IMG - if you already have that file there (topo maps already installed), rename that file to something else first.
That's it - turn on the unit and it'll show the map - if not check the settings and make sure the base map option for OSM map is ticked.
Hmmm interesting I'm going to have a look at this. I have topo at the mo.
Have either of you had trouble uploading tracks from the unit to the conect site?
It works ok on my desk top pc but my laptop won't serch the 605 for new tracks
Any ideas why this might be?
Cheers
Top man - I think even i can follow those instructions. ๐
No problems for me but I don't really use it like that very much. I mostly just browse rather than use the Garmin software so I just find the gpx file I want and copy that.
