[#9759123]

My wife kindly bought me an Oregon 700 for Christmas to replace my ancient Etrex 3.0 and I must admit that I'm very impressed with it.

The downside though is battery life; whereas I'd get around 16 hours run time with the Etrex the Oregon 700 pretty much sucked the batteries dry in one 3 hour ride (they're Nimh but could probably do with being upgraded).

I've turned off Wifi and since I'm not going to be pairing it with a smartphone (I don't own one) I thought that I'd turn off Bluetooth too; however whenever I access the Bluetooth menu from settings it goes straight into pairing mode and there doesn't seem to be an option to turn it off.

Is it possible to turn off Bluetooth on an Oregon 700? Any other battery saving tips would be appreciated too!

I've the 600 and used the equivalent of this page for the 7xx series.

The problem I'm having is that when I enter the blutooth menu it goes straight into pairing mode, if I cancel the pairing option I'm taken straight back into the main settings menu.

The page you've kindly linked to does seem to show options for turning off Bluetooth; perhaps I need to pair it with something first.

Hmm, Garmin's own documentation just goes down the pairing route. No mention of turning it off.

It seems a bit back to front but there's a Windows version of Garmin Connect Mobile which I've installed on my desktop PC. It's paired with the Oregon and I now appear to have the option to turn off Bluetooth (although it's not clear if this completely turns of Bluetooth or simply disconnects the pairing).

If it's any use to anyone else (from the settings page that whitestone linked to)

After pairing with Garmin Connect (it has to be paired via Garmin connect and not through the OS) I get the following options:

Turning off the slider next to Status displays "Off".
