this is my first heart rate monitor and was just wondering what is the pen type object that comes with it for?

I don't recall having any "pen type device" arrive with my two.

Yeah, it's a screwdriver to remove the back plate when you need to change the battery. There are 4 almost microscopic screws to remove.

ah thanks for the replies (my eyes are getting old as i thought it might be a screwdriver but couldn't see the end of the driver very well).

I had one of those, and ended up sending it straight back as it was intermittent in picking up my signal.
