I cannot get my Garmin to connect to a PC to upload a route. It's an Etrex H and came with a USB cable but the bloody computer won't detect it.
It's driving me mad and I know there are some Etrex users on here so please please help me before I try and take out a satellite with the thing. It would be easier if they worked with Macs.
Cheers
Paul
I think the Etrex H has an RS232 interface not a USB so you will either need to plug it directly into a serial port on your computer or plug it into a serial to usb convertor. You will need the driver loading for the serial to usb first and then set your GPS software for garmin serial
the usb cables are a bit of a problem. try downloading these drivers
It's got a USB cable rather than a serial one
I've tried the updates, set it to demo etc but the updater returns an error saying it's unable to find anything connected so I can't finish installing the drivers. I think that it is a driver problem though, a bit more work to do tonight then.
Thanks for the replies.
Yes! Success after repeated attempts to install the correct driver and to figure out which COM port it was using. Now just to figure out how to upload a track to the thing.
what mapping software you using?
I can recommend this one here
Yup, another recommendation for Quo.
I used [url=
to plot the route and have bodged a free download of Mapsource to upload it to the GPS. I'm going to give Quo a try later on, it looks a cracker - thanks for the link.
Slight thread hijack, but has anyone managed to get mobile atlas creator download maps in a format that works well wiht Quo mapyx?
