Got a Garmin Edge recently, and have downloaded an offroad route onto it. How do I get it to just show me the route on the screen so I can follow it? Yesterday, I selected the route, and it calculated a new route, ensuring that I stayed firmly on road.
Look at the section of the manual on auto-routing - according to my HCx manual there are 'follow road' and 'off-road' options. Either that or it's something to do with 'highway'.
I tried it with off-road option later on - it still calculated some crazy on-road route. I don't want it to calculate anything, just show the route on the screen really.
Upload as a track/tracklog not a route.
Check out Frank Kinlans site, for info on the Edge's, and how to do off-road routes.

use courses not routes
upload as a course then get the route from TRAINING>COURSES>DO COURSE

Just be thankful my old 301 geko had the same route uploaded eh!!
;o)
Serioulsy, hope the advice here is useful... It looks a nice bit of kit, even if it appears very roadie orientated!
cheers for the info...will have a play
There is a bit of a bug when downloading routes. How are you loading it on to the 705? via mapsource or 3rd party app?
I found if i downloaded straight from memory map, the 705 would link up all the waypoints as if they were road destinations. If i imported into Mapsource and exported from there, the route worked as it should.
I converted it to GPX in Memory Map and saved it away, then just cut and pasted it onto the Garmin
