After updating to the new spangly software my edge is totally frakked.

I see on t'web there are many complaints about this update, especially if you are using a Mac.

I will have to send the bl##dy thing back to Garmin to be reset.

mine has gone a bit t1ts up as well.

It works, but I can't auto download, I can only manual download.

I'm assuming thye will have a fix out soon.

can you reset the firmware back to 2.8?

Yes, just updated mine and also playing up.

On Wednesday it didn't find any satellites for my entire ride. Thursday I left it turned on outside my house for 45 minutes before it managed to lock itself into position. Today it took about 15 minutes; still unacceptable!

Not good - also looking for a way to revert to v2.8

Found this:
"BUT BEFORE YOU INSTALL THIS UPGRADE, remove all the *.fit files from your Edge (you can store them on the computer) including the activities folder AND the courses folder (which I forgot about).

Some people upgrading with *.fit files left in the memory are experiencing issues ranging from inability to upload, to completely bricking the unit. "

I put mine on 3.0 back in June and it's been faultless
It was a brand new unit though so maybe try Kryton's method if you're having issues

Just plug it into your PC and you'll see it as a drive

In the root there's a folder called Garmin, under this you have Activities and Courses

the .fit files are in those folders, copy and paste them to a backup folder somewhere on your PC

i have the same problem.
updates to 3.0 and now i cant measure distance and it wont record any data...
spoke to garmin and they told me all they could do was send it back and they could sell me a new replacement unit at a discounted rate.

I checked my Garmin and I'd already upgraded to 3.00. However, I did a while ago have an issue, and the advice from Garmin was to remove all the fit files, perform a hard reset, replace the .fit files and all will be OK.

And it is, I just can't remember if that was before or after the upgrade.
