Few questions about Garmin and their maps:

1. Are the pre installed maps any use for mountain biking?
2. Do you really have to spend £200 on 50k OS GB mapping?
3. Is it easy to get Open MTB maps on the unit?

Most use for the unit will be walking and riding in Italy and Switerland over the summer, then in the UK the rest of the time.

I've got used to the massive variety of maps available on Android phones using AlpineQuest etc, but looking for a bar mounted gps device to relace my old Dakota.

cheers

You get the bast deal on OS maps when you get them bundled with the device.
The Open Street Maps can be popped onto a card and they load up. I did the OSM version when I was back in the UK.

Thanks, I'll look for an OS Map bundle. Open Mapping seems to be good in Europe relative to local maps (maybe because most dont come close to OS quality!)

What about creating a track on an Android tablet and uploading to the Garmin (rather than using a laptop)?
