Looking to invest in a garmin 800, for road and Mtb . Is the os mapping okay for road navigation? Or is it better to get the road maps as well?

Thanks

Charlie,

I have the 800 with OS mapping and it is brilliant. I have downloaded some free mapping for the UK and it works okay but the planning was a complete drama whereas the OS is much simpler. It recognises junctions and the like when you are on the road and give you directions. Very good.

Like Dogsby, I purchased the 800 with the UK 1.50K OS maps bundle and is great both on and off road. Off road I use it 'track up' and it displays the OS map. On road, or if following a set course, I use it in 'automotive' mode which gives a 3D view with turn and junction prompts just like a car one. The OS maps also include POI's etc.
I also purchased the City Navigator Europe but the OS maps contain most of the detail info (UK only obviously)
The built in base maps are really poor though.

Yep get the 1:50,000 OS mapping as bundled as its about a 1/4 the price that way compared to buying it on its own.
