My Edge 705 seems to be chucking out spurious data. It seems to have started adding miles to my rides when I upload to Strava or the Garmin site. Is this likely to be a problem with the unit itself and if so, can I reset it? Would it make any difference?
if you look at it on a map what does the trace look like? Is it zig-zagging along the route with wild fluctuations.
Also, Strava will 'drag' any gps trace to the nearest segment if you ride close to one which can add distance.
You might have it there. There are a lot of random zigzags, particularly on off road rides. I assume I'll be unable to fix this then.
Road rides are quite accurate.
Are the "random" zig zags making the track line up with nearby roads at points?
Checking for device updates if you've not done so for a while is worth doing too.

@scotroutes....no. It seems to be worst where there is tree cover so I guess it keeps losing signal and then sort of making stuff up!
GPS signals can easily be swamped by wet tree cover.
I guess that might be it then
