...but planet x were selling scwhalbe big apple 2 inch tyres for £7 ...

I'm a fan of Big Apples. I use the 2.35" version on my gravel bike for rough stuff.

I have a set of the cheap 2" version, and it doesn't feel anywhere as supple. I'm not sure if it is the tyre or the bike I have them on, so I'll be interested in your opinion.

@damascus

Where did you find a Tarn fork? That would be the solution to my rigid fork problem.

@cromolyolly. A lot of genesis tarn bikes came with a rigid fork. The earlier ones were carbon, the later ones a mix of carbon or alliminium (I think)

It seems a lot of people "upgrade" the fork so they come up on ebay all the time. They sell for around £100.

I have a 29er x 2.35 hans dampf on and there's loads of clearance. I think it might even squeeze in a 3 inch tyre.

@epiccyclo. The 2 inch tyres were £7 each, the 2.35s were over £20 each. I also bought some Schwalbe Century Wired Tyre 700x50mm Black with Reflective Strip at £5 each to try.

+1 for the Marin Muirwoods, I just bought one for weekday commute duties and weekend exploring.

Very happy with it for the money, I think I paid £340 after cashback etc.

I’m a fan of Big Apples. I use the 2.35″ version on my gravel bike for rough stuff. I have a set of the cheap 2″ version, and it doesn’t feel anywhere as supple. I’m not sure if it is the tyre or the bike I have them on.

I put some 26x2 Big Apples on the tandem back in 2005 and they were ace: supple, weighed next to nothing, but didn't puncture, and lasted for ages (they ended up on my commuter).

Picked up some of the 28x2 ones from Planet X (for £5, yay, go me) and they're certainly a different beast. The tread lacks most of the siping on the originals and they certainly feel less supple in the hand. Mind you, they seem ok on the bike at whatever pressure I've got them at. At £5/£7 you certainly can't grumble 🙂

@damascas other way around I think. older tarns had alloy forks, then they upgraded it to a carbon fork.

https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/voodoo-marasa-mens-hybrid-bike--18-20-frames at its cheapest price of £320 (if you're lucky you might get 10% BC discount)

Room for a pair of £8 https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TYSCBA/schwalbe-big-apple-wired-tyre
