UKGE seem to be only mob enforcing FF next year (yet)

Some EWS rounds were, Tweedlove wasn't.

SES hasn't commented

Enduro organisers everywhere are buying shares in Met, Bell, etc

UKGE seem to be the only organisers that want it. Remains to be seen how much choice everyone else gets, in the long run, I reckon it'll be decided by insurers not by anyone who's ever ridden a bike, as a result of the epidemic of facial injuries that hasn't happened

UKGE Only at the moment.
Some of the Euro ones too. ie bluegrass one in Scotland.

I have talked with most UK race organisers and at the moment none of them are going to follow UKGE (Yet) some might see how it effect the sales of UKGE races.

UKGE is allowing the Bell Super 2R incidentally which avoids the whole 2 helmet thing. As long as it fits obviously!

Bluegrass's event is a bit different since it's uplifted. (they did do a conventional enduro with mandatory fullface at kinlochleven but it was a bit of a disaster, only about 80 people turned up (I sacked it off after practice and went up to fort william instead, figuring if I was going to wear a fullface, I'd do some riding that merited it, rather than the ciaran path with the difficult bits removed...)

You still have lots to choose from, if rule was in place last year it would have been only 6 races out of 44 effected.

I'm sure the FF helmet rule will not effect the UKGE sales, It would stop me entering them.

cant see me entering the UKGE but i will be doing as many smaller races as possible.

i have penciled in the mini enduros (excluding FoD as they were a wash out this year) and the Red Kite Races. are there any more about i could take a look at?

How is an "enduro with uplift" not a Downhill race ??

Because there is more than one stage.

I've not done it but I gather the riding is more enduro-ey. Kind of like the megavalanche, blurs the lines a bit.

Once we get the lift network in serving innerleithen, caberston and cademuir with the cablecar down to thornielee, it'll be all uplifts for us.

That would be wonderful, but I foresee a valley full of ruined trails. Ridden 3G recently? ๐Ÿ™

Ridden 3G recently?

Yes, about 2 weeks ago. It was fine then. Has it deteriorated? Caberston still doesn't get that much traffic.

did you miss the mahoosive ruts that have been carved into it? It's a shadow of the way it used to be imo. It'd get plenty traffic if people suddenly had easy access

ukge will still sell out in a couple of hours and Parr would like to stick some more techy DH stages into the mix, so this works well with the new BC free UKGE,- I know their H&S bod used to inspect every stage to look for risk of horrific death etc and the builders of the fresh cut stages would often have to re-route lines to keep the BC comish happy

The bluegrass ones will still be full face

im still surprised that tweedlove EWS wasnt, youd have to wear a FF to race those same tracks at a DH event
though for EWS you do sign a no insurance? waiver saying you do it all at your own risk

Don't EWS, helmet-wise,go by the rules of that country's national series/ruling body? Therefore as UKGE didn't insist on full-facers, it wasn't a requirement for EWS.

Will obviously be different this coming year...

I think it's up to to who ever is organizing that particular round. The EWS is currently an umbrella tour that takes in events from loads of different organizers so there's no unified rules on helmets etc.

As Kimbers says, no FF required for Tweedlove, EWS or not.

That clash wont happen again Kimbers as the Enduro organisers are now all working together for a brighter future for enduro in the UK. Much easier now BC are out of the way!!

Having seen the guy smash himself to bits on Stage 4 day 2 of the EWS, I'll stick to a proper full face on the stages and an open face on transitions.

I'd like to see full faces as mandatory in all enduro races.

Steve's decided to run his new british champs on the same day as the EWS. All working together!

Kimbers - "though for EWS you do sign a no insurance? waiver saying you do it all at your own risk"

There's no such thing as this, you sign a waiver at every race I've ever been too but in uk law they have no meaning at all if anyone can be deemed to have been negligent and arguably more than that are introducing an unfair term in to the contract you have with the organiser and as such are void anyway.

Why? If you want to wear one then go right ahead but why force people in to it? Everyone who enters is big enough to decide for themselves.

POSTED 34 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

Maybe they are but the injuryclaims4you brigade won't be long in chasing the organisers for compensation ๐Ÿ’ก

An example from my work; one of my colleagues at work fell off his bike on company grounds. 3 others, myself included managed to cycle through the site which was covered in ice. He was off work for some time due to his injuries. For whatever reason he is claiming compensation from the company for his fall due to their negligence in gritting the roads(6pm ish)

Outcome so far is company may decide to ban us from cycling on site and require us to walk the 15min from the gate ๐Ÿ™„

I ride within my ageing limits but have mates who are constantly "challenging" themselves with the resultant injuries ๐Ÿ™

I do understand that's the way the world is going (God help us, a discussion for another day) but I can't see why, on an individual level, someone would have a problem with other people wearing open face helmets?

On another note I am pretty excited for the venues for the SES to be announced! Cracking fun this year.

From PB Interview with Steve Parr
[here]

What about full face helmets then, will they become compulsory?

Full Face helmets will be, just for the stages, errm lets be honest. In Europe they have been wearing them out there since the beginning, yeah I know they have bigger tracks and blah blah blah 'I don't want to stick a helmet on my back, it dangerous' I've heard it all before, its a load of b%*&:@s. You're going to wear a full face, simple as. In your backpack, if you're a normal MTB'er, you have spare bolts, pumps, spanners, all kind of things so it's a load of b%*&:@0s. You will have to have a helmet on your head, of one form or another, done-up securely at all times. We have talked about like in Formula they have certain points where they can turn on generators to make more power or something, we've talked about 'helmet free zones' on transitions like the TRS zone or something in F1. Actually that was a forum suggestion that we are taking in to account, so we are thinking about something like that. Especially somewhere like Afan where the temperatures were nearly in the 30's. There are different ways we can make it work. On stages full faces will be mandatory to a certain standard, we need to make sure what that standard is first.

I love the bit where he points out that strapping a helmet to your back is just the same as having spare bolts inside side it. It's all bollocks I tell you ๐Ÿ™‚

Why can't you just put something like " for your own safety you are strongly advised to wear a full-face helmet" ...or "please use the best body protection possible but a helmet, knee-pads etc. are mandatory".

Because you are racing dh tracks, that in a dh race a full face would be mandatory on, simples

So ukge is racing dh on a trail bike now? Well that's off my summer holiday list then.

Dh on trail bikes, isnt that what enduro is all about?

They've always had a round at inners, last year it saw a round using Aes dh lines and the stuff at dyfi has always been fast and rocky, drizedale this year too has some good fast tracks, a lot of the venues use former NPS dh tracks, in fact enduro seems to mean that in the test of Europe and ff is everywhere at ews (tweedlove aside)

Theres also a truckload of other enduro series here that don't require a ff so the punter still has plenty of choice, regardless ukge will still sell out in a matter of hours because it is such an excellent series

Its great that Parr is pushing the sport forward so we can compete at an international level, their enduro youth fellowship thing is a great example

Especially when BC are now walking away from the most popular and influential MTB discipline of the moment
