Anyone ever replaced one? do you need any special tools? Is it easy to do?

No, but i replaced a racing seven.

Relatively easy, just be wary of the online manuals, there are some basic errors in them that you just need to ignore to make things fit (eg a long and a short spacer, the only way it would work was by putting them in exactly the opposite positions shown in the manual...)

The contact form on the fulcrum website is really good, the tech guys actually respond for a start (take note blackburn, and countless other companies)

They have some vids on youtube of servicing and stuff, maybe a freehub removal there.

I serviced mine after the freehub gave out. Easy peasy. Stick an allen key in each end of the axle ends and undo. Everything comes apart from there.

The (single) tiny weenie small spring that held the pawls out to enagage with the rachet had broken. I replaced it with a home-made version made out of a section of a coil spring from an old sram shifter. Unfortunately, the new spring was a fair bit stronger than the old one and now I scare the livestock whenever I freewheel. ๐Ÿ˜†

Regards,

Ben

^What blob said.
What's the problem with it? You shouldn't ever have to replace the freehub, just pawls, springs and bearings. The springs break regularly...

took it into another bike shop, 30 mins later, and a tenner and its fixed.

I won't be using the bike shop who obviously didn't strip it, and just said "It needs replacing" and then had it for a month without doing anything.

I will be using the bike shop who took time to investigate and fixed it quickly and cheaply again!
