My friend's bike has Fulcrum wheels and hubs and I took the rear wheel off to give it a bit of TLC. I noticed the tiniest bit of play in the cassette so I thought I would take the it off and check the bearings, they seemed OK actually so not sure where the play is coming from possibly the freehub but anyway, my question is this..
On the non drive side there is a screw on cover plate that you lock in place with a hex once it's done up. How on earth do you get it in the right position? Too loose and there is play in the axle and too tight and it binds. Adjusting the cup and cone bearings on my cheap wheels was way easier than this. I figured I must be doing something wrong. I've had the whole axle out and tried doing the NDS up first before attaching the freehub but it makes no difference...
Any ideas anyone?
If there is play on the cassette then the freehub bearings will be worn. The outer bearing has no shield from muck apart from its seal. The inner on mine didn't even have a seal on the outer face.I'm just replacing the pair on my Fulcrum 3's.
I've never had a problem with the adjuster. Just tightened it by hand and nipped it up.Have you backed off the adjuster then tried tapping the axle on the nds to make sure it's seated into the hub.

Bottom half of the page has the manuals or spare parts catalogues with exploded diagrams that may help if you can identify the correct year / model.
Righto, thanks guys. I'll have a look. ๐
