I was out for a ride in the whte peak yesterday, starting from Bakewell. Conditions were fanastic, clear blue sky and a temp hanging around 0oC meant that all the waves of mud were frozen solid, crunchy goodness with every tyre turn.

I had that yesterday in the White Peak too- went out at 6.30am for a ride and the ice covering the country lanes to the trail was terrifying but the hard trails were a delight! I barely even got muddy.
Got to be said there is nothing finer in winter time than when the grounds frozen and crunchy clear blue sky riding along at a good pace.

I break out the full susser when the ground is frozen. Tons of grip, but it is pretty rough!
Slightly off topic but my local ParkRun is nearly always muddy, last week it was super sloppy mud and great fun to run through, this week it was frozen and even more fun to run through. A guy who runs most weeks commented on the fact that I just ploughed through the mud saying "you must be a mountain biker" which made me smile!
I think this thread has just inspired me to get over to Dartmoor tomorrow morning 🙂

@bigdaddy it's Eastleigh near Southampton it's an old golf course which has two small rivers either side of it and has been wet for many years before Parkrun started.

Out riding around the Stroud valleys at 08:30 yesterday, Camelbak pipe froze, really loud crackling mud, solid hard stuff too, sunshine, and the most satisfying crackunch when dropping the back wheel into frozen puddles! Ace.

I didn't get over to Dartmoor yesterday but managed to find crunchy mud on my doorstep..
It was invigoratingly treacherous as it was already well into the thaw down here on the English Riviera so would go from hard and grippy to slimy and slick depending on how sheltered that part of the trail was..

Did 19 miles last night, 4 middle aged men trying hard to make crunching sounds by riding through every frozen puddle we could find. Amazingly good fun despite the -7C low, not factoring in wind chill, and the painful toes as they warmed up in the pub!

The Guide might be near Keighley, but I'm pretty certain most of it is filmed above Hebden Bridge around Blake Dean hostel
