Hi there,
I have permission to abandon the family for 2 days to go and play in the lakes. The Vimeo film 'From fell to forest' was pretty inspiring -

So we have decided on Nan Bield the first day and a quick play in the forest on day two.
On my Five I currently have a Nevegal Nevegal Stick-e 2.35 on the front and a Maxxis Ardent EXO 2.25 on the back.
I am slightly worried about the side walls of my front tyre on the mountain passes - I really don't want a shredded tyre up there.
I have ordered an On-One Chunky Monkey in trail extreme compound with 'Eckso' sidewalls. It should be extremely grippy and tough but maybe too slow rolling?
If anyone has any experience of these tyres, or an opinion it would be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Si

I use a set of Nobbynics pretty much all year round. You'll be fine.
It is a bit of big country though so a decent jacket supplies and leaving a route plan with someone isn't a bad idea for a big solo.

Most of the locals tend to ride single ply front and a 2 ply or EXO Maxxis on the rear. So something like a super tacky Minion front and a double wall high roller/minion 60a rear.

Have shredded continental protections in the lakes but more recently people are having success with the Schwalbe super gravity casing. So Vertstar Magic Mary front and trailstar/pacestar hans dampf rear.

Not used On One tyres but I hear they are just the same as Maxxis EXO so should be just the ticket.

Even though the Lakes rides are big days out, people tend to put up with the drag so the tyre stays in one piece all day and then they can absolutely hammer it downhill.

On One or Maxxis would be cheapest setup but if you buy in Germany Schwalbe are miles cheaper than here.

We did a loop from Hawkshead taking in Grizedale and Parkamoor and some other stuff. People were using lots of different tyres but those using tubes were the ones that got the punctures and they were all pinch flats not shredded tyres.

First reply -yes I probably do worry too much ๐Ÿ™‚ But I don't get to do big, fun stuff often and I want to enjoy myself!
Thanks for the other replies, I will stick the CM on for the safety of the EXO/ECKSO.
Cheers,
Si
