[Closed] front mechs

replacing a broken top swing xt 9spd front mech, used on a 2x9 setup
i want to replace with a conventional swing mech.
will the gear cable need to be longer/shorter?
as ive got deore shifter is there any point looking at slx/xt?
any good deals out there for a sram front mech/shifter or are they as unreliable as the rear mechs (x9)

FWIW having chewed through an SLX front mech, the only difference between it & the XT one I replaced it with were that the more expensive one has 'XT' cut through the cage top, whereas its predecessor was stamped 'SLX". As a result, not sure it's worth the extra for XT.
