i bought a shim to reduce my hone front mech down to 28.6........it doesn't fit properley.

You have a can of worms here.
Hone M600 v1 needs Y-5HY 98020
Hone M600 v2 and M601 need SM-AD16S
Deore M511 needs Y-5HL 98010
Deore M510 needs Y-5EZ 98020
