I've been using some gevenalle converted TRP hylex on my gravel bike, they're intended for 1x10 but I've had them in friction mode to run 1x9, originally I intended to only do this temporarily but I've gotten on quite well with them it in friction mode...

Today's ride was extra soggy with a bit more climbing and it convinced me I could maybe use slihhtly more range at the spinny end (currently 11-34). Now the obvious choice would be a 10speed 11-36 and turn on the indexing...

But then I did wonder if I could carry on using friction mode with an 11 speed MTB cassette (say 11-40) for even more range and closer steps, or would it just be a bit too nadgery?

Anyone done anything like this and have some insight to offer?
