[Closed] Freehub failure on Specialized Camber Evo 2015, needs replacement

[#7925066]

Without warning my freehub failed on my Specialized Camber Evo 2015 after just 14 months use. Not only did it kill the ride, it happened 9 miles away from the car. Had no option but to order a taxi to get back. (Then drive back to pick the bike up before driving home - what a nightmare)

Anyway I'm now trying to get it fixed and on inspection the pawls have worn out which has caused the failure. Does anyone know where I can order new pawls, or if I have to order a new free hub ?

If I need a new freehub, does anyone know what type I need to get that is compatible with the Specialised Camber Evo 2015 ?

Get in touch with the shop you bought it from. The freehub on my 2012 Camber failed after a year and it was replaced under warranty. They sent my LBS a brand new hub and paid for them to rebuild the wheel with it.

Unfortunately my bike is from a bike shop that is anything but "local" - I had my original nicked and got a replacement delivered by Wheelies Direct under insurance. They are based in South Wales.

What wheel is it?
Not sure if one of these will fit, http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/products/specialized-freehub-body

Otherwise try emailing the distributor to see which you need for your wheel. I'd be surprised if you couldn't replace the freehub body.

Wheels are 29ers
According to a website with specs:
Rear Hub:
Specialized Hi Lo disc, 4 sealed cartridge bearings, 12mm thru-axle, 28h

That's all I can find without phoning around

Size is irrelevant, make and model (the writing on the hub) is whats required here.

You might be best just taking it to a local specialized dealer though.

Email the Spesh UK helpdesk, they are usually great and will give you the part number you need to order form your local spesh dealer.

Yep, either call Wheelies and check the warranty.
Call your local Spesh Dealer as they will get you one
or Mail the Spesh UK above who will give you the part number to get a bike shop to order for you.

I'll contact Wheelies next

If the new freehub is not here by Friday then I'm on the hard tail which won't be ideal

The fastest way will probably be through Specialized's dealer network, unless it rebranded from something else CRC won't stock it. A big Spec Dealer might and if not a call to the Distributor could see it in a next day parcel within an hour...

Wheelies Direct

You won't get much joy with them (or their sister company Tredz) regarding warranty requests.

Any local Specialized stockist should be able to order either a new freehub body and / or freehub pawls for you.

Specialized's rear HiLo hubs are pretty rubbish in the British weather to be honest. They seem to let in a lot of dirt, grime and moisture. My Camber build had a Specialized Stout hub on the front which was no bother at all but the rear HiLo hub caused me grief from the get go and I was glad when they sent me a new hub (which was one of their Roval hubs if I remember).

My stout Hi lo freehub (on my spesh) also failed, mine only took 6 months. I took it back to see if I could make a warranty claim. That didn't go well (they claimed where and tear). However I did notice (as with yours) the wheels were advatised as having sealed bearings. The bearings I had on my stout wheels were not sealed. Evens have now ordered me a new set of wheels and upgraded them to Maverick wheel set (all for free) as the bike was not as advatised. Its a long shot but check your bearing type. You may be in line for a free upgrade (including freehub). Good luck.

It's normally a joytech or formula made hub and freehub can have subtle differences to the base which means you need the right part.

I ran workshops in 2 concept stores, we'd ring the customer service people at chessington, for members of the public you need to go through a local dealer.

I had the same problem on my Stumpy. Ordered and paid for a new Specialized freehub but in the end just fitted a Hope hub instead.
I have a brand new bagged freehub if you would like it.

Got a reply from specialized by email they said it is part number S132100009 I don't know if it's because I'm thick but I cannot find ANYTHING on their website that allows me to search for items by part number. Can anyone provide a direct link to the part of their website that allows this ?

Simply get hold of a spec dealer and get them to order you one. Ask for it to be expressed.

^^^ This ^^^

Just ring or drop into your local spesh dealer, give them the part number and ask them to get you one.

No. That part # will only work with their B2B website, not the consumer one.

As others have said, get a local Specialized dealer to order you one (although if they don't have anything else to order at the time they will pay £10 + vat carriage if order value is under £200) or just order one from the link that BoardingBob posted.

Is it the three spring one from the roval hub?

If it is I've got one from a hub with a knackered bearing that's stuck in the Shell. You can have for a fiver to charity and postage?

*it might take a couple of days though as my garage is a bit "over crowded" at the moment so I might not be able to get at it till the weekend.

I've contacted Wheelies Direct and they said that although the freehub is not under warranty anyone (it expires after 12 months) they will send me a new one by Friday (tomorrow). They said it's £40 at Specialized but they can sell it me for £30. So I've gone with that. Now just hoping that it arrives on time.

Thanks for the help everyone
