Rather than punting an old canti CX bike for a song I'm going to build it up with parts bin spares. It'll be cobled together with flat bars and a mountain bike drivetrain.
So show me your repurposed,upcycled, modified bikes. Anything now doing something it wasn't really designed to be used for.
My beloved Scapin frame as a 26 rear/27.5+ front singlespeed. It was previously a 69er.
I frankly have no idea what exactly the Planet-X Hammerhead frame was actually for, but probably not this
This is Cyril, photo from a while ago (usually use Marathon Cross these days). Sometimes goes into what I call Frankenbike mode, with 29x2.35 G-One up front and 26x4" JJ on the rear.
Inbred in sorta commuting guise...

Only ridden it up and down the road, can’t say I’m overly keen to try it anywhere else...

My 9yo son's XC bike:
27.5" extra small carbon Haibike frame
26" wheels, carbon rims, DT competition DB spokes
Fox 32 Factory 120mm reduced to 80mm with super thin damper oil - works great for a 25kg rider.
Offset bushings in the rear shock to reduce standover and slacken the headtube to take into account the shortened fork
Full XT M8000 + SRAM NX 155m cranks
Total weight, around 9.5kg - lighter than my own bike as he's always happy to point out! Rides like a dream and is (IMHO) the perfect trail centre bike for him. In fact, now that I think about it, I should probably think about taking a spacer out of the forks as he's grown a fair bit since he first started riding it last summer...

That looks like the sort of bike that would be ideal for riding the trails north of Cardiff. Perhaps on a Wednesday night.

Either needs TT bars to make use of that downward aero gain, or a larger front tyre, something like 29x3.0 😉
I don't ride my odd combo often, but when I do, it's usually when I randomly decide to tackle the Meon Valley Trail.
I suspect STW would regard most of my bikes as Frankenbikes, but this repurposed Dahon folder is my most Franken...

I like to think of it as my most niche bike, in that it fits into several niches, recumbent, folder, fixed, odd sized wheels, front wheel drive, penny farthing. 🙂

Some great looking bodge efforts. Whilst the big/small wheel combos are fun, I've got a special place in my heart for a thin/wide tyre efforts.
