I rather like the look of belt drive are there any frames suitable off the shelf or will i need a custom solution?

Easy to do a modification if you buy a frame with a flat dropout like the Pompino.

Just make sure you get a frame with stiff chainstays otherwise you are in for a load of grief.

BTW elevated chainstay frames are too flexy for belt drive, otherwise they would be perfect..

Wasn't there a thread about this recently and won't Nicolai custom build a frame with a frame splitter in the seatstay

what is the advantage of belt drive bikes? I've never understood it myself. Is it just another niche market to tempt our money out of our wallets?

Save a bit of weight, silence, and clean drivetrain.

Loads of gotchas too though. They will all be ironed out eventually.

was at the lights the other day at Holborn, guy next to me had a SS Steel E-Stays Alpine Stars - proper one with fluorescent paint and mega short chain stays..

Yeh they did look right, moreso than Mantis or Nishikis and especially Fishers. No idea how any of them rode.

norco are bringing a belt drive bike out for 2011 as are ellsworth if you have a look around the American companies there are a few who are making the jump.

you can get spot longboard belt drive frames/bikes on fleabay from the states as well
