[#2817537]

Ok, bought a second hand Attack Trail frame off ebay, had four pics of frame 100% feedback so all seemed well. Frame has arrived and has what i would call a substantial amount of rub/wear to the rear of the seatpost (i am assuming tyre damage?), seller described it as having minor cable rubs etc and the paintwork has held up well. However no pics of this area of the frame.

Sooo is the damage likely to be structural and therefore unsafe, is it just cosmetic so don't worry or is the seller having me over?

A pic i took on my phone, there is a tiny ridge not quite a mm high down the middle also of the rub.

You've been had. That is clearly not as described.

If you hadn't mentioned the ridge I would have said live and learn as its only probably paint/anodizing wear.

However, if you can feel a ridge, whilst not structural now could be problematic later on.

No idea as to tube thickness on these frames ๐Ÿ˜•

With the protection of ebay & PP etc I would raise it with the seller.

If it were me though I would be looking for a refund but then I am a tart ๐Ÿ˜›

It also came with a Chris King headset fitted, seller stated complete with fittings.....it is not, the headset cap and scuff washer are missing.

Tube thickness on a rough (tape measure) reading is 2mm.

That's completely out of order. Bang in a paypal dispute.

Blimey, its getting worse, i bought it as a medium frame but it arrived with no frame size sticker, so i measured the seatpost from middle of BB to top of seatpost which is 17.5" but iirc Marin measures theirs differently i think they go from middle of BB to middle of top tube which makes it only 15.5" so a small which makes me wonder why it has no size sticker????

Top tube also seems out, can't remember how Marin do theirs though so mid seat post to mid headtube is 549mm which again is the small size??

Am i measuring wrong?

I think that's waht Marin would call a Medium. Not aware that they do anything different in sizing their frames, but a quick call (or trip with a tape measure) to a dealer would confirm.

Ebay is like a holding pen for tools.

I got some dx v brakes, only they arrived with half the fittings missing.

Sold as working brakes.. yet far from it.

Bastards.

Just got a reply, apparently the seller thinks the frame is fine and that the wear/damage is only polishing of the anodising and will not affect performance??

It actually has been flat spotted where its eaten into the tube and left a ridge down the middle. Have replied with my thoughts and requesting refund, will see.

I have a hole in the top tube of my XC bike and two very thin spots, its not broken yet!

Although, if there are multiple problems and the listing specifically stated things dispute it. Whats the worst that can happen?

Worried that the leverage on a seatpost tube could be quite high and a weakness in material on the post may cause failure.

That and the fact that it just wasn't shown or listed, something i would have done as its quite a big area.

The ridge is the joining seam. If you can feel the ridge, this means the metal on either side has been worn away, and is now thinner... not my guess if this would mean the tube is now weaker, but i wouldn't be happy.

Do not take any shit at all, tell them you want some money returned or send the frame back!

And while we're at it, why don't we check the bearings and shock โ“

Apparently shock bushings have been upgraded by TF Tuned as has seals on shock. I can't dispute that as the seller did send me the old bolts etc so i take that on face value.

Also seller included 2 Goldtec BETD hangers .

I'm a bit lost on how the damage has occurred. Looking at pictures of similar Marins there should be about 4 inches between the seat-tube abd rear tyre.

I used to own the same frame but in its Wolf Ridge guise, never ever had trouble in that area and i'm a heavy lad.

That's a lot of wear, and the seller deliberately didn't tell you about it. Complain and get money back IMO.

Just had info confirmed by outside party about frame sizing/measurements on Marin. It is confirmed my MEDIUM Frame sent by seller is actually a SMALL. Dispute being launched now i've had enough!!!

Is the right length shock installed? If so, that is a retarded design.

My guess is some nugget put a longer shock on thinking they'd get more travel.

Seat tube is the least stressed tube on a bike, I reckon it would be ok.

That said I'd send it back or look for huge discount.
