[#2758342]

hi all,

i'm thinking of getting my frame repainted. Does anyone know any good sprayers in Cheshire / Staffordshire / Shropshire? How much should I expect to pay?

Also, the bike (04 Marin Attack Trail) is being made up with nice spangly hope bits in ano red....what colour frame do you think would suit?

Cheers

Morgs

baby blue and red bits is nice. Don't overdo the red bits though. Then it'll just look gash. Mix the red with black , keeping the red to small areas ( hubs/ BB/ headset/ seatpost clamp). Black seatpost, black stem, back bars and grips etc.......................

red bits so far are hubs, seatclamp, headset, spacers, brake levers and piston caps

not sure on baby blue....guess i'd want to see a pic 😉

Hmmm, I'd think twice about the levers and piston caps, that might be a bit much (imho of course!).

Not really got a good pic but here you can see the red headset, seatpost clamp and red pinstripe detail on headtube. What you can't see is the red hubs (and that's it - was fitted with square taper BB so no red BB).

On the other hand, here's red hubs, red quick releases, red headset, red seatpost clamp, red chainset spider, red chainring bolts, red cable end caps, red headset spacer, red detailing on stem and seatpost.

If it's a powder coat you want - as opposed to a Bob Jackson / Argos style stove enamel, give Wilkinsons in Shavington (near Crewe) a shout. No website but you'll find their number online. They're more automotive powder coaters but have done bikes (including my 456) in the past, so understand the need to protect threads and the like. There's plenty of info on STW about how to prep your frame before taking it in.

They match to RAL codes and it's cheaper if they have the one you want in stock (prohibitively expensive, tbh, if they don't) and have glitter and pearl finishes too. I'm made up with the job they did on the On One - an Olde English White (RAL 9001, iirc) with glitter and gloss lacquer over the top. Seems bomb proof so far and they turned it around pretty quick too.

Take some Dulux paint swatches with you that you like and they've got colour books in there to match to. £40 - £70 depending on the bling-ness of finish you're after...

Powder coating is most certainly harder wearing over Automotive car paint. You would also be surprised with the colours now available! Not just plain boring colours now! 😉

fantastic info guys - thanks a lot. I live in Crewe so Shavington is only a couple of miles away!

It'll probably be a job for a few months time...i'm itching to get the thing built but, if money allows, then it'd be nice to get something done sooner.

I'll have a look down B&Q at some samples as I have no idea what colour(s) to go for, but thanks for the suggestions so far!
