cheers for the tip, any idea if these are any different/better than SFK branded bearings from eBay for £5 a pair though? Does the MAX business really make much difference on pivots? The old bearings are full of crap rather than have collapsed so is sealing not more important in this application?

An engineer at my last place used to complain to his supervisors regularly that buying cheap (chinese) bearing was not a cost saving. As the machines broke down more, due to bearing failure, so cost more in repair time & more bearings.
I trust his advice, and buy branded bearing.

Cheap bearings don't really work, yes you can buy them for pennies, but as z1ppy has pointed out the cost of constantly replacing them will mean it's not worth it and if the fail as in collapse you will be left with ovalized housing or worse something snapped.

On XC frames you will get maybe a year, a bit less for am light fr, for DH FR probably about 6 to 8 months. Unless you get wash them and you will get almost nothing. A guy on MTBrider.com claimed to have used them on his stab and they only lasted 6 months.

SKF are an option in regular sizes like 6001 2rs and 608 2rs but in 6902 6900 6802, they are £7 to £8 a bearings and that's a lot to spend if your frame runs 10x bearings.

The seals on the top end bearings are much better than the lower end ones and will as a result stop more contaminants from getting in, however once the contaminants do get in the 25% to 35% standard grease fill offers little to no protection.

Lastly, I being a complete and utter moron who doesn't know when to give up and more accurately get's obssesed with stuff. have gone off and created the perfect MTB bearings, or at least I hope I have. Since I've invested 2 years of my life in doing it.

I've got a company involved that work closely with a factory to produce specialist bearings.

We've combined my reaseach and their knowledge of bearing manufacture to create a bearing range, good quality bearings but with a few extra twists. I also sent samples of JNK bearings, specialized, giant, scott run those and Enduro max, INA, SKF to the factory to have them analyzed and work out why they fail.

Not long ago a ride on lawnmower company where having problems with there bearings collapsing due to particles of dirt, water and grass getting through the seals of the bearings they run. The bearings would collapse and this meant that the lawnmower had to be repaired under warranty. The company I work with was drafted in to create a new kind of seal that would be able to deal with high velocity impacts as well as jet washer blasts which is how the lawnmowers are cleaned.

These seals are what my bearing range is running, I am also having the bearings fully pregreased in the factory, with a very tough grease, basically we're stuffing as much grease into them as we can get, so that if anything does get past the seals it won't be able to rust the bearings.

That I have managed to create two of the best bearing ranges in the world, without any real money and all on my own, should count for something. But it doesn't, we live in a world where image is everything and ability counts for nothing.

My budget bearings the new range will last at least 2 years I wouldn't be surprised if the last longer, considering they cost £20 on average, not bad for the money

My performance range, the ones that I am selling for less that you can buy the bearings from the shops, after they've been fully weather proofed will last at least 3 years and I wouldn't be suprised if they last a lot longer.

Lastly, Dan if you give me an email we'll have a chat, If I have the bearings you need in my new range you can test some for me. I don't doubt the haters will be along just now to tell eveyone how rubbish I am.

Since I'm skint and need to pay the bills I'm off to sell my bikes and all of my other worldly possession that I like! but don't absolutely need.

By yourself, all on your own, you believe you have created a better bearing than skf etc with their multiple million pounds worth of R&D and many many years of experience? This isnt a knock at you, but it is a VERY bold claim, you understand people will be sceptical, no?

If this is true, dont worry about your image etc, get samples off to frame manufacturers (maybe intense, orange, people like that, not the huge corps like specialized) - See what they think? If they are as good as you say and you can provide them at a good price im sure they would be interested - Let product reputation and sales create the image for you - if there good they will sell.

I'm running SKF INA FAG, and a few other good quality bearings in my performance range, the only difference is that I remove all of the old grease and install the grease that I have had the most success with.

I've taken the best bearings in the world and weather proofed them so that they are specific to being used out doors. I don't know of any companies doing that and selling bearing kits ate the prices I am.

Hey IanW I have some tools that you use with a vice if you want to fit the bearings yourself.

I have a giant meastro bearing puller that I could rent to you but I would need a deposit.

If you're talking about the original Giant anthem x that is to say from 2005 to 2007 then the price of a bearing kit is £35 via paypal + £2.35 postage, main pivot / linkage bearings are by INA the other bearing will be SKF/INA as well.

The main pivot bearing are about £8 each RRP in the INA brand so 4x £8. The SKF's or rocker plate bearings are between £7 and £9 each on ebay 2x £7. Then you have the two smaller bearings for the upper triangle about £6 each.

Like I said considering I'm removing the old grease and filling them up with the toughest grease I've found with 2 years of research. You cannot get better bearings kits for the money.

These bearing will last for years, standard performance bearing will last 2.5 to 4 years, weather proof them and they last a lot longer.

If you want to check the prices of bearings, just go onto feebay type in the bearing number and the manufacturer for example 6902 skf or 6902 INA you will get to see how much the bearings I sell normally cost. Ebay is a bit cheaper than a lot of shops but obviously you have to factor in the postage as well.

my spesh bearing kit was £40-50 from betd but a pita to fit, however since then i bought a full set of bearings for my yeti from betd, and they undersupplied the main pivot bearings..... so cost me a further £10 + petrol and aggro to get them from a local bearing supplier, then they didnt answer my email on three occassions....im not recommending them ever again.

Give kaesae a whirl

I don't know what Kaesae uses but I use silicone grease and it seems to last longer than other types, but I really pack it into the bearing. Max bearings are expensive and if your changing them every 6 months then your better off getting cheaper ones.

been busy for a few days, however I can sell you a bearing kit for your epic and some tools to do the job. Although the epic can be one of the hardest frames to strip the bearings are one of the simplest jobs to do.

As for me falling out with single track, I had a slipped disc and I have other members wasting my time with idiotic emails. £120 is a rip of £20 for the bearings and tools, you can do it your self.

It wasn't just about the frames wwaswas, they where rubbish my bearings they where rubbishing the work I do. Anyone that buys a used frame or anything else know how rare it is to buy something in good working order.

I think Kaesae's manner on the forums seems to rub up some folk the wrong way.

All I can say is that having corresponded by e-mail and spoken to him on the phone he's a very decent guy and extremely helpful.

Kaesae was very kind and sent me a set of bearing for my Yeti free of charge to test.

I must admit that they are still sat in my tool box as I've just had a new dogleg and rear end under warranty and they both came with new bearing fitted.

They pass the 'oh thats smooth' finger test (warning this test is not CEN accredited).

Hey Takisawa, if you give me a shout I'll see what I can do. Pro 2 isn't a problem as for the vedanta I have 50+ sizes of bearings in stock and 7 different suppliers, hard to get good prices sometimes, I should be able to sort something out.

Kaesae has been extremely helpful in assisting me with building my bike. He also sent me a free box of parts, including some dmr pedals and a saddle which are both going on the new build.

The man comes across as a bit of an eccentric, but is a top bloke and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him when it comes to purchasing bike parts or general info.

Stripping the epic frame again, had to change some of the settings, it's not very good but will have to do, for now.
