The RP23 on my Superlight is clicking and making a squelching noise so is in need of some attention.

The clicking is almost imperceptible with the bike stationary but I think there is a tiny bit of play where it connects to the rear triangle. Over rocks I feel and hear a lot of rattling. I'm hoping new bushings will fix this.

The squelching is heard when I bounce up and down on the saddle. I'm hoping new seals and grease will fix this.

Having looked on line at videos ([url=

one by Al from MBR seems particularly good) and kits e.g. from TF Tuned, I'm considering having a go myself. I've done pretty much every other servicing job on mountain bikes before, including building 3 from the frame up, but never touched forks or shocks.

The bike and shock are about 7 years old but the shock has never been serviced.

Should I bite the bullet, get a kit for 30 quid, dismantle everything and rebuild it myself or is this something best left to the pros and send it away for 100?

What's your experience with shock maintenance?

Thanks

I'd send it to TF and then hide behind the sofa when they call listing what they have to replace.. They will give it a thorough service literally stripping it back to component level.. TF are who I use and have been brill btw. I had my RP23 Push tuned and it is loads better, just breathes better and suits the bike it's fitted to.
The knocking will more than likely be the rear bush..

The squelching sound is likely to be cavitation of the damping oil.
Might be better to send it away as a diy service doesn't involve changing the oil in the damping circuit.

So if I send it away, which servicer gets your vote?...

TF £99 service or £159 to be "push tuned" (i've read the blurb but still don't quite get it)
Evans £50 (not inc bushings)
Mojo £89
Sussed Out £89

Which shop and why? Cheers

Evans won't be a full service for that. That'll be an air can service.

Mojo for me, they're as good as TFT and they're local for me - spend the £10 saving on a few beers.

Evans at £50 is only a air can service, not a damper service.

give slickandslide suspension servicing a shout, rp23 servicing is £80 and is a full on service, not a seal service that you'd get from evans etc, it will be done as good if not better than the above, and much quicker turnaround times too, can post it off to him or drop it in if local to Cheshire/staffs way

not related to me, just recommending ace service ive had from him, defo worth a shout out
