[Closed] Fox RP23 Low Volume on Meta 5.5

[#5098121]

I have recently been giving my long abused Meta a bit of TLC and found that the rear shock (plain old Float R) was in a bad way (vibrating and making bad noises when compressing). I was going to send it off to be serviced, but then spotted what I though looked like a bargain on CRC - a RP23 (Low Volume) for £179. I naively thought that as I would spend at least £100 on the Float R service, I may as well spend a bit more and get a better shock. Not being a full on bike geek, I didn't realise that shocks come with different tunings specific to bikes and riders. I'm guessing the shock will probably be a mid tune (it's yet to arrive, so I don't know yet) and am wondering if that will be OK for my Meta 5.5 and with a 12.5 stone rider doing mainly XC (but also a bit of Alpine downhill shortly!). I know that TFTuned do amazing things to shocks, but I'm not sure if I need to spend the money. Seems nobody has a high opinion of the boost valve system which appears prone to failure, and many people say the RP23 is a bit harsh. Should I just send it off to TF as soon as I get it and have it sorted, or just fit it an ride? Opinions please (but not about my naivety!).

Sounds pretty much perfect. I found my Meta far too sort with a high volume shock, they're plush enough with a standard one.

It depends if you want the ProPedal on the RP23 really. Is your old Float R open valve or does it have some ProPedal? If it's the latter I'd definitely get the RP23 just for the open valve.

Thanks! My float R is open valve - no ProPedal. So fit the RP23 and just ride it as it comes then?

Why not just ride and see what you think? If it's awful, you can always get it tuned and at least you'll be starting off with a new shock from the off. And if you're happy with the way it rides, you can just use it as is. Seems logical?

Thinks that's what I'll do - kind of wanted to make sure I hadn't done the wrong thing buying it. Cheers!
