Hi folks,

Looking for a bit of advice. I just bought a mint 2011 Zesty 514 frame which currently does not have a headset. It has a tapered headtube and should be running a 1 1/8 to 1.5 tapered steerer. Three questions:

Seen a new 2011 Fox Float 32 140 rl Non Fit with 15QR for £329. Does the FIT system make much of a difference, if so off to Ebay for FIT equipped, or go with the non FIT new fork.

I have also seen a good condition 2011 Fox 140 Kashima with FIT but straight steerer. Does anyone know if the Lapierre would accept a Hope Mix and Match headset or something similar? Would it make a huge diffrence not to run a tapered steerer?

Last, anyone know where I could find out the length of steerer on this bike to make sure that I dont buy a fork with the steerer too short?

Sorry for the stupid questions, first time building up a frame from scratch.

Thanks

Alan

The non-FIT fork looks a bargain. I have a set which sound similar that I got from CRC. The performance of my front and rear suspension feels similar so I've never considered upgrading the forks to FIT. You could get the non-FIT fork then if the performance doesn't match the performance of your rear shock send the fork to Mojo for the FIT damper upgrade. It would probably work out cheaper than a new FIT equipped 32!

I have a few mates that have either bought new FIT's or upgraded from normal open oil bath ones. They report much better small bump sensitivity and better control in the rough stuff. Normal open oil are good though, just the FIT has that more control.

If you're a Rockshox man, its like comparing a normal RL to a XX/RCT3 damper - more control in all aspects imo.

I'd go for the 2011 fork with the tapered steerer as the FIT upgrade is easy enough to do at the next service and much cheaper than a new CSU - if you did want to upgrade to a tapered steerer at some point.

Thanks guys, someone beat me to the Ksshima ones. So purchased the 140rl and when they need a service and I am feeling flush I can upgrade to fit.

Now off to source a headset,
😀
