Hi all - I have quite an urgent problem!

I have just done a 15hr service as usual but this time the right hand stanchion (the one with the lockout control) seems to be forever spinning round making it very hard to get the nut done up on it.

Is the inner of the stanchion supposed to spin?

Cheers people.

If you can remove the nut, try tightening it without the crush washer first, this should pull the assembly into place with minimal friction, then remove and re-assemble with the crush washer fitted.

Instructions I have say to compress the fork while tightening the nut. They use compression straps, but I've done it with a couple of big zip ties in the past.

What coatsey said. I just separate the crush washers from the nuts and thread them on by hand whilst pushing down on the arch, then thread the nuts on..

Okay - managed to get it back on, so clearly it it normal for this!

Next question regarding the same stanchion:

It was full to the brim of fork oil. I have now emptied it all out (by turning the bike right side up) and added 5ml to each stanchion. Is this correct?

Cheers again people.

Err no, your not meant to turn the forks on a 15hr service. You'll have emptied the damper leg of its fluid. You need to get on the fox website and look up how much fluid you need to put back in for your model and year of fork. Make sure you check whether its open bath or fit also when looking this up.

Struggling to find out info on the above post.

Is the stanchion supposed to be full of fluid???? If so, how much. It's a 2010 fox float 32 fitted to an orange 5.

Worst case, I'm pretty sure that I can remember the amount of fluid that was in there. Basically with the inner pressed all the way in, the fluid would be right at the top.

I guess I'll replace in the morning before the ride.

Sounds to me if it was full of fluid it is a open bath model. Easy to suss, check the lowers if it says Fit anywhere then its not the open bath model
. You can find the measurements for either in the above link.

anc - That's how Mojo recommend doing the 15hr service and it's easier and less risky that levering up the seals. You also get a better chance at checking on the stanchions so you can check for early signs of wear.
Only a very small about of oil comes out and that is replaced (10ml each side I think)when refitting the lowers. The damping fluid will stay uppers unless you turn the bike over (which would be silly).

Yes I know that's what I do, but you don't turn the uppers back upright when the lowers are off unless your oil needs replacing. The OP turned his folks and emptied the fluid if you read his post. Which is why I showed him the oil volume chart to get him sorted again.
