I bought a set of Fox F120s off ebay last week. Just been out to the garage to fit them and am a bit perplexed to see that one M6 bolt fits into the lower brake mount perfectly, but just goes straight into the upper one - i.e. it doesn't thread in - it can just get pressed in. I wouldn't have thought it could be that easy for the previous owner to have stripped the threads - or is it? Is the alloy that soft?
I assume that the only real way around it is tpo replace the lowers?
Anyone know whether ebay/paypal offer protection for these cases if the seller refuses to fix or refund?
Easy fix - helicoil. (google for it) cost a tenner or so from any engineering shop - or DIY if you buy the kit. I take it they are post mount not IS mount?
Go that route if you can't get satisfaction from ebay.
Thanks for that Jeremy - I'd heard of helicoils before but didn't really realise what they did...now I do. Sounds like a get out of jail card. I'll sleep a bit easier now 🙂
