Got a orange 5 frame 2010 just need forks and brakes for build. Got a chance to buy some fox 36 vans for £200, wud they be to much weight and travel for it even if I get them lowered to 150 or 140 guys,
The 2010 has a head angle of 67 deg so if you fit a 36 it will slacken that to 66 deg. It will also raise the BB height. They did sell the 5 with a 36 in 2010 so it will work its just whether you want a slack bike with higher BB. Lots of people i know have not liked the way a five rides with a 160 fork. To reduce the travel on a 36 van you need to fit a travel spacer and chop the spring or run it preloaded.
Got 160mm 36 vans on mine, works a treat for what I want to do with it. I'm not a big air spring fan yet, so prefer the characteristics of the coil especially on steep stuff. Yes you will obviously pay a weight price, just got to weigh up the setup vs. what riding you actually do
That's great guys I mite still go for some floats 140mm or revs yet just weighing the options out, thanks for ur info tho.
I'm a big fan of my Van RC2's. I've ridden Floats and do t reckon they're anywhere as near as nice.
There do seem to be a fair amount of Fives with 36's on the front so they can't ride that badly. I'd say give them a shot. If you don't like them and they're in good nick, you shouldn't have any issues selling then on.
I don't think you can lower the travel on Vanilla 36's (without cutting and grinding the spring). Could be wrong though.
Mindmap the guy said they are a great ride with them on so I mite still consider them yet. I have till Wednesday to make my mind up, I want to use them for cross country as well as abit of downhill as well
