I'm after one and weighing up the pro's and cons. Van is only .5 lb heavier, stiffer, less to go wrong and a better colour floats are more adjustable. Any opinions on things like bump sensitivity or tracking?
Cheers

Got some floats Im selling they are fantastic soo smooth and controllable.
Unfortunately they have to go to a new home after only a couple of months.

Don't know where you got the idea that Vans are stiffer, they're both the same structurally, just different internals.
Float bump sensitivity is ever so slightly worse than the Vans, but tbh you'll be very hard pressed to notice the difference. Tracking - see stiffness, same on the Float and the Van.
For me the lighter weight of the Float was a minor bonus, the adjustability was quite a big plus though - easy sag setup, and a 30 minute job to adjust the travel if you feel so inclined (or want to swap the forks across bikes).
I think the most telling thing is that Dirt - traditionally focused on DH, DJ, 4X kit - recommend the Floats over the Vans, despite the commonly-held belief that coil is better than air for that sort of application.
I got the float r's on my alpine. Was dissapointed it came with them after having 2006 van rs, which lacked small bump sensitivity. Wanted the rc2s.
That was til I rode them. They are amazing forks, smooth controlled and the small bump sensitivity is amazing! Am sure the new vans would be as well, but am well impressed with the floats. See the dirt review

Thanks fellas.
I love my 36 Vans - they are incredible. Not tried the floats to compare to though. I went for the Vans mainly as they are meant to require less looking after.
I'm with Grum. If there's an adjuster (i.e. air valve), you'll play with it - if not, you'll get on with riding.
Van = Fit the right spring and go ride. Float = set the pressure, ride, fiddle with pressure, ride, etc.
I also went for the basic VanR for the same reasons!
Internal servicing is also quicker - i.e. you don't really have to do anything to the spring!
I've got the VAN 36's which are awesome, both forks have pro's and con's which have been covered above! for me the VAN was perfect for the riding i do in the Alps so it was an easy choice there just sooooo plush.
For me its more about the sort of riding you want to do on them?
