What works?

This 2018 review says the arch comes down behind the crown at full travel, hitting the mudguard. Benji isn't having any issues with whatever he has on his Orange Switch, but that's running at 170mm so I dare say it's not getting close to bottoming near as often as it would at my 140mm.

Formula themselves say the crown comes lower down regardless of travel, which makes sense intuitively. Mudhugger say their EVO version (with the recess) has been tested by the UK distributor but don't know how (i.e. the only way to know for sure is to compress and see, rather than just ride it and listen if you hear a bang).

SKS Shockboard or similar? Crown guards are more or less universal and work really well. The SKS guards are fantastic but the mounting hardware is absolute crap, so you end up having to attach them with cableties or similiar. But I still like em

Can confirm that the Mudhugger Evo fits fine and doesn't push the mudguard into the tyre under full compression.

Excellent, thanks. I did read somewhere that stanchion would be showing even at full travel, as seen in your photos.

Nice colour match too!

I have a  Mudhugger Evo  on mine too. The MRP guard didn't fit with 2.6" tyres.

RRP on my selvas - the max / biggest they do. Conti 2.4’s and no issues whatsoever.

Cheers, I think that's a better and nicer looking one than the Mudhuggers, only swapped due to the clearance issue on my Pike.

I'm surprised it works though (if you do ever use the last 5-10mm of travel) based on how close it looks on Sim's photo. That recess is a good 8mm deep at the back, and maybe 5mm at the front.

After five years it was time for a bit of a change. Still a great bike and still has geometry that puts more modern bikes to shame. Frame is in the loft for now, it'll likely make a comeback at some point.

Also currently running the biggest RRP ProGuard on my Selvas (R/29) and can confirm all ok after using all 170mm of travel a number of times at a recent Pearce uplift.
