My pads will need replacing very soon (plus I haven't got an emergency spare pair 😳 ), so can anyone recommend any replacement brands/variations which have done them proud?

with the danger of starting yet another Superstar thread IMHO the SS organic ones 4 pairs for less than £20 is great value. I've never had one where the pad has fallen off the backing plate, they work well & last OK. The OEM ones were £15 a pair from my LBS 🙂
