Hi People, Non-Mechanic here needs some advice.

I have a set of 'Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 2' 2007 forks - 20mm axle. Without any air pressure they do not move much (1 inch). But I appreciate these are designed for big impacts. With air at 60 psi (just a test) I cant move them at all. I also cant turn the rebound knob.

My question.
Given I am a reasonably competent person (in my opinion).
1- Would I be able to fully service them? - Cost estimate?
2- Or should I take them somewhere? - Cost estimate?
3- Or should I sell them to someone who knows what they are doing?
4- What do you think is wrong with them?

Ultimately at some future point I am going to change them as I want someting a little more XC in white!

Cheers Mark

They are easy to service yourself.

Buy some oil and some new seals (if they need them). That will cost you about £25 in total.

They may not be travelling much due to the stiff springs?

Try riding along at walking pace, lifting the front end of the bike a foot or so off the ground then slamming it into the ground as hard as you can. Do they still not travel much?

If so, they could currently have to much oil in them. You could try draining a little at a time

Thanks David, easy you say, I may give it a go then.

When banged they move less than an inch with no air! Like I say, with air they are fairly solid.

I assume I just unbolt the top and tip a bit out? Is it worth removing it all, measuring and putting back in as I know it should have around 175cc.

Yeh, just undo the top cap and tip a bit out. Measure the amount you tip out (try about 10mm from each leg). If they improve then you know thats your problem.

Aren't these a coil fork with air assist? Also zochi forks tend to be low pressure so 60 psi is way way way too much.

Yes, 60 is to high, just me testing it apologies if mislead.

From the manual I am fairly sure they are oil. I will get the spanners out and have a look.

Would you agree, that it would be fairly simple to try a self service! Given my average competence.

What am I looking for when I get them apart? Just a general clean up and check the oil quantity?
