Hi lads when you remove your lowers and put them back on do you compress them fully and tighten the foot nuts to effectively form negative pressure in the lowers?
I have never done this but some YouTube videos show this. I've been having a debate with my mate and I said it is wrong he says that it's right.
I've never had a problem with leaving them extended.
Who's correct? 🙂
No. Forks either have a valve for manually adding negative pressure or they self balance between the positive and negative chambers.
Hi mate thanks for reply but I don’t mean in the air shaft. I mean the lowers of the fork where the stanchions go in. The dust seals do a good job of sealing the lowers so air either gets trapped in or a vacuum.
Your right.you want to extend the forks
Extended, if you re-assemble whilst compressed and then inflate you create a vacuum in the lowers, not what you want (acts like a secondary negative).
Hey Dazzzzbo. About a year ago I was wondering the same thing. I’d seen the you tube vids that showed the lowers comressed, so it created more negative pressure (or something like that). I tried it and it didnt work wel. exactly as dirty dog says above.
When watching the proper SRAM , xfusion and fox “how to” videos, they always do it uncompressed. I get the concept of doing it compressed, but it’s not how the manufacturers rcomdn(and they should know).
