Hi guys,

My current bike is in serious need of a fork upgrade. At the minute I have a Rockshox XC30, it's a spring fork and is about to be swapped out for either
1. A second hand RockShox Sektor 130mm
or
2. A brand new RockShox TK Solo 120mm Air

But other than travel, whats the difference?

Cheers.

What model of fork do you mean? That's a pretty ambiguous description. TK means the fork has the TurnKey damper and Solo means it's Solo Air (rather than Dual Air), but they make lots of forks with those properties.

Anyway, the Sektors are air forks and also use the TurnKey damper so there's not a lot of difference there. Sektors have 32mm stanchions (the 30 has 30mm ones, hence the name) so they'll feel a bit stiffer and stronger. Might be worth looking to see if you could find a Recon Gold RL (not a Gold TK), which uses the better Motion Control damper found in the more expensive forks. Although Recons have lower travel than Sektors (max 120mm, usually sold as 100mm) and tyre clearance is a bit tighter (though you could easily squeeze 2.25" tyres in there).

Older Sektors (at least some of them) had Motion Control dampers

Sorry, thought I had been descriptive enough, the description on CRC is RockShox XC 32 TK Solo Air - 15mm 2015.

Seems as though there's not much between the two I've mentioned. My only experience of an air fork was with a Recon on my Boardman that was great. I'm only after 120/130mm to be honest anyway. I'd have a Recon again if I could only find one within budget.

As above, Sektor RLs will be better.

Sektor R will be lots worse.

Ferrals, sounds like what I'm after, can you do me a favour and send me the length of the steerer so I can make sure it'd fit. What kind of price are you looking at?

Steerer is 166-167 mm as best as I could measure. Would want ~£170 for them. What your email and I can send some pics?

Sorry mate, just been out to the bike and measured, my alone is 160mm (ish) so the fork wont fit. Gutted. At this rate its going to be the 120mm TK Solo Air I think
