This may be the first time in my life I've ever been on-trend. Entirely by accident of course.
Beard - check
Vintage Kona - check
Assorted dry bags rather than panniers - check
Likely to stop for a pint of craft ale - check
How has this happened to me? At least I'm not singlespeed...
Route?
Does it involve deprivation, dirt and mud?
Just attach your mug to the outside of your luggage and you're good to go!

@Scotroutes Down the South Loch Ness trail, over the Corrieyairick, over to Loch Ericht, over the Gaick to Feshie, Aviemore, Granton, Dava Way and through Culbin and back to Inverness.
I might adapt the route a bit as it's all been a bit impromptu and I actually have no idea how far that is! I've got 3 days though.
I'm going to go light on the deprivation this time I think.

Is this why bikepackers appear to favour a tarp over a bivvy bag? Fear of asphyxiation?

You mean whisky don't you?
You're doing the SLNT the wrong way round 🙂
There's a wee diversion too look out for from the shores of Loch Ness after Dores. Then you'll be climbing the Fair Haired Lads Pass. The new track from Loch Tarff down to FA might just be finished though - that's not on the SLNT maps yet but shadows the road.
Oh - if you end up near Aviemore one evening, let me know. I might be able to walk to the pub by then 🙂
Cheers, will keep an eye out.
Have you knackered yourself in some way?
Not sure at this stage where I'll be overnighting but will let you know if it's Aviemore area.
Have you knackered yourself in some way?
Only by running.
Whisky is a genuinely good idea🏴🏴
It’s just like touring but don’t tell anyone

Trail
It's been under development for some time, as a sort of local project. A few local businesses have been helping fund it and there's been a recent big change due to planning gain from the Glen Doe Wind/Hydro electric schemes. The SLNT and Great Glen Way are now being promoted as the Loch Ness 360 too - a complete circuit of Loch Ness almost completely off-road for both walkers and cyclists.
I used the SLNT during one of my own bikepacking trips last year..
