Over friends at the FC have just sent over some updates on the current developments take place in the FoD.

The 1 South West project is funded by European funding to developcycling in the South West of England. The Forest of Dean is lucky enough to be one of just a few sites over the region to successfully receive money for the project. It aims to provide cycling opportunities for family and intermediate ability riders.

In the Dean several things are already under way/planned:

Creating 6 fun features on the Family Cycle Trail. - (Open in Spring)

Creating an easy pump track / skills area at the start of the Family trail. - (open in Spring)

Creating an intermediate grade skills area on the spoil heap in Sallowvallets near the start of the single track trails. - (Open in Spring)

Creating a 7 mile intermediate trail within Sallowvallets which is Largely using an existing eroded trail. - (Open end of the summer)

A new cycle bridge across the road from the Cycle Centre.- (Autumn)

Developing the Cycle Centre car park into a safer, more visitor friendly area. - (Autumn)

Its absolutely vital that these do not get used until they are officially open. They need time for the stone to settle and be whacked again. If they get used now, it will seriously reduce the lifespan ofthe trail and give a much poorer riding surface so its in everyone's interest to keep off.

** Important**
There is still harvesting going on in the forest around Sallowvallets.
Its important that riders obey the signs. Unfortunately this is not
always happening and they have had a near miss where someone could easily have got killed. The situation with trail closures is changing all the time so riders need to check the Forestry Commission website which they are trying to keep updated.

Keep checking out our website for further updates thefod.co.uk
