Just going by the pics, those lines look well rideable. If anything they´re probably a bit too wide.
I can´t say as I´ve noticed much damage.

Some mountain bikers think it's okay to ride on "cheeky trails" leaving tyre tracks and annoying walkers.

Some 4x4 drivers think it's okay to drive on "cheeky trails" leaving tyre tracks and annoying mountain bikers.

Shocker.

Oh dear oh dear

Cyclists, walkers and horse riders are classed as vulnerable road users. Motorised vehicles are the reason they are classed as vulnerable. The two don't mix. Byways are really for farmers to access land.

1 Cyclists way may weigh around 100kg and won't really do much damage to any trail.

1 landrover weighs around 1.5 ton and can destroy a surface on any trail and make it difficult for other users.

1 walker could weigh 90kg and does very little damage.

1 Horse riders weigh a lot and still won't do much damage.

Which one shouldn't be there?

"afterall pedalabikeaway centre has done wonders for the FOD "
That very much depends on your point of view!

Trails are often a lot wider than the riding line so they're sustainable, losing that shoulder quickly results in the trail collapsing.

I still don't buy into the it'll be us next, as far as I'm concerned anyone using the trails under their own / horse power is fine, anything with an engine should be blanket banned.

i've looked at all the pichers and I reckon I can still see a line that even I could get my bike through.

mmm - not my experience, possibly where trail is manicured, maintained hardpack and/or where there is one 1 horse a month, however on natural dirt trails (the sort of trails I ride) a horse in the wet can make it totally unusable to any other user type (and give this years conditions has with depressing regularity), I'm also finding that quite a few trails (Berksish) are being horse surfaced - aka lovely natural flowing singletrack, flattened, ashed and 2metres wide................

re 4x4 - I wonder if they got a network of effectively free trails to play on if there would be such an issue ?

That's awesome cheez0 but the fact is that a number of locals have put a lot of time, effort and money into building that trail for the benefit of riders like you.

I don't have a problem with a bit of cheeky motorbike or 4x4 use (I'd be a hypocrite to) but there's no need to spoil the trails that the locals have put so much effort into building.

No. Byways are public roads. Most may not have been tarmaced but they are still public roads. Farmers don't need motorised ROW to access their land.

Really?? Are you serious?? Ground pressure of a hourse is higher than a 4x4 (unless it was running on MTB tyres), do the sums. That's static ground pressure before you even consider impact verses rolling.

anything with an engine should be blanket banned

They are already have no ROW on the FOD DH trails, so what difference does that make. Except possibly marginalisation leading to more cheeky 4x4 and motorcycle use.

dont bother smoothing out the trails into some kind of forest motorway on my account, I like a few bumps and rocks, my bot-bot doesn't mind,

I rode these trials a few weeks back and it looks like they have started the tree felling, apparently a million infected trees around the forest including swallows, soudley, cinderford etc. These are removed with very big wheeled equipment. Why not contact local paper just to highlight the potential damage the 4x4's are doing and suggesting they seek out the forestry areas effected with felling. The tyre ditches would be a challenge for them and in truth the 4x4's probably haven't considered the effect they have on the trails. If you don't bike, you probably don't know the effort people put in to build them.

People put alot of time and effort into building those trails. With the size of the Forest why the hell they want to drive down there when they could go hundreds of other places.

That part was closed for a bit this morning, while they were working on it.

All sorted now.
