Right, although I live but a mere hour away from FOD, I've only ridden it twice, once years back before the FODCA and last September on the excellent enduro course.

This weekend is Candodavids (of this very forum) birthday and based on the enduro course, we believe theres a mighty load of excellent cheek riding to be had for his birthday ride. Since we're uh, somewhat relaxed about legality of access, but have only been twice, I was hoping some deviant trailblazers may be able to drop us a couple of MM routes or similar.

We're completely prepared to follow our noses, but it would be great to have a framework to work on.

Anyone prepared to help?

Happy birthday David

Yeah I'd also like to know some starting points for FOD trails for future reference.

awesum!

There will be two rigid 29'ers (SS), plus a normal SS, so niche whoredom will be fairly represented. Wouldn't want you feeling all mainstream.

From experience, forget the GPS, the reception is very poor over there. Better go for the GPSheldon.

Given my experience under tree cover with a garmin 205, High sensitivity receivers have pretty much dealt with that issue these days.

However, its clear even to the least technically minded the GPSheldon is a superior technology.

So, the mighty ayatollah and us Somerset giffers hooked up today for a mighty squirt around some of the finest singletrack in the Royal Forest of Dean.

An it were right nice like.

Props to Sheldon, and, as we said, anytime you fancy a bit of Mendip, give a a shout and we'll give you the alternative trail tour.

Thread revival alert โ—

I have the same request as the OP, I'm heading down to the FOD over the BH weekend and it would be great to have a route from local knowledge so if anyone has something on their GPS they can share I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Rio

Well, we had a top day, but because we had GPSheldon, we didn't take a GPS. Sorry.

I might be there on Monday. Drop me an email to remind me and I'll confirm when I know more. If not just pedal and follow your nose, you'll find some good trails.

It's possible to extract a kml from http://www.fountaininnandlodge.co.uk/biking_cannop_valley_loop.html and convert it for use on most gps. I'd recommend taking the instructions as well though!

Went to the FoD with a couple of "locals" last weekend - I didn't realise the range of riding to be had round there, having only ever really done the FoDCA trail & the various DH tracks.

Trails like the old enduro route, mushroom trail and Dowie's (sp?) were great big chunks of wholesome rooty goodness ๐Ÿ™‚

Given the proliferation of trails all over the place round there, I'm not sure I'd want to rely solely on GPS though.

Ayatollah thanks for the offer your guided tours seem to come highly recommended but unfortunately I think my window of opportunity away from the extended family will be Saturday/Sunday. I'll just follow my nose and see where it leads me.

Buy they way there are a bunch of guys trying to get some dig days toegther at FoD to extend teh FODCA, add stuff to teh DH runs and add other trails. They have big plans, so if you want to get involved just drop them a line, they are on facebook also. They have a poster on the board next to the parking meter.
