Anyone done the blue loop at the forest of dean? Is it about 10k and good for beginners?
Yes to all. The last drop is a touch fast but ridebale by almost any. Popular with blokes who convince their wives that that a "blue" is an easy day out for a lady. Lady 1st timers get to final switch back and shreik their way down. But they do it and most say it was fun.
So will it be easy compared to cwmcarn?
It's a really well designed trail, the climbs aren't nasty and there's nothing technical in them. The down hill bits are real fun if you take them fast, fun if you're a beginner going slower. My GF loves the trail (she hates Cwmcarn which is on our doorstep - it's too technical). A proper blue trail with something for everyone.
Its supposed to be 11K (I think) but doesn't feel it, its quite easy to do two loops in a couple of hours, even more enjoyable the second time around.
Yeah its quite an enjoyable loop. The top flatter section through the woods is lovely in the right light.
You never really feel like the climbs are that bad(because they aren't)
There is nothing 'technical' in it though I guess the faster you hit it the more difficult it would be. There are some great but very short bermy, swoopy bits but all over far too fast.
I think it makes good use of the terrain although I wish trails like these would give a few more difficult lines and options. There are several nice swoopy bits where the odd kicker wouldn't go amiss for a cheeky launch or two.
The final section is really grin-making. You can't do too much with the rollers one after each other at the top but they are fun nonetheless. Hit the section as fast as you can and its a good laugh.
A good choice for a quick spin with mixed ability..
heard very good reviews & recommendations about it and will be heading down there soon myself very soon.
Perfect for newer riders, but also fun ridden fast for experienced riders.
The Verderers Trail has been well designed
I have riden final sections on DH bike and was great fun but equally i took a friend on a fully rigid bike with cantis and he loved it
Best trail i have riden that is suitable for all levels.
Hope you enjoy it.
I found it quite boring and uninspiring, however my wife, who is not the most enthusiastic MTB'er thought it was great. Maybe if I rode it flat out it would be fun..
As a route for a beginner or a rider really lacking in confidence, great, as a route to inspire an aspirant MTB'er, not so good. (All IMHO)
Try riding it fast gearfreak, it gets better the faster you ride

I thought the same after taking my GF as I ride to her pace, in comparison to the Welsh trail centres it was quite tame. But then I went with a mate, rode it flat out and it was just so good. Like I said really well designed (and made too - rode it just after the recent storms and the surface was well drained) and offers something for everyone.
I've done the lower bit of the blue, by just skipping off sheepskull on the dh tracks, liked it.
It sounds similar (well actually better) to the new blue at Haldon. If you ride this flat out its really good fun, technically challenging in a cornering and braking kind of way..
Take a fully rigid SSer. Thats fun. I can barely hold on at the bottom. Equally great on the SS CX bike. Never taken gears or any suspension on it. Must take the Enduro one day just to see.
I find the surface tediously bumpy on my rigid bike. Really shakes my shopping about on the way back from Eskimarket. Interesting to compare it to Ashton Court both being constructed at the same time under the 1SW banner which is far smoother and a much pleasanter prospect for those that like to combine a bit of deer or owl spotting with their bike riding.

I think the trail is very good used part of it to get to the other good stuff.Last bit is great when you do it fast. When it was first open on a full suss it was mental fast so smooth. There is a lot of people using it which is good for the forest. The forest is not the easiest of places to fine the good stuff and link it up.
I beg to differ that lots of people using it is good for the Forest! More people are not good. Just to contradict myself though maybe it will keep people away from other places. Hmmm
Well funny you say that because when i ride around worcester lodge and over to the solar panel cottage when the trail was first open kept thinking what are these people doing there then realised they were on new trail.Mind soon as you cross the road and go to the dippies and on to the Dowies you hardly see another biker.mainly dog walkers.I think there is less people on the old trails now the new one is there. The forest will never get that busy people are to lazy to find the trails their self.
