Hi

Poss interested in a Focus ebike, but it’s not a brand I know much about.

So

- warranty been ok, has tech support been available etc
- bits availability, esp focus specific like mech hangers, weird bolts and e-bits.
- consumables like headset and frame bearings, presumably a decent aftermarket choice
- do you get a decent manual with parts diagrams, torque settings, shock bush size, bearing and sizes and how to remove etc etc
- how easy is it to change all the suspension bearings and do they cope in UK winter mud
- anything else

Thanks

Don't know if this applies to the bike you're interested in but I had Focus Mares CX bike. Nice enough bike but it had un-necessarily awkward and unique thru axles (R.A.T system) which meant equally unique fork and dropouts. I managed to damage one and it cost £60+ for a replacement. For that reason I would avoid Focus.

No personal experience but iirc aren't they the people behind the CIS stems that all the cables and hoses feed through for the internal routing?

Any particular model/price you were thinking about.

I cant help you on the questions, but when i went Ebike my initial choice was the focus jam 6.8. I couldn't get it in stock, and opted instead for a Scott genius Eride instead. I liked the Focus, the level of kit was better than most at my price range.

Jam sl poss 9 or 9.9

Still got to do checks on fazua motor (*not that optimistic), but it’s getting good reviews as an e-liteish, still no signs of new levo sl, after something e-lite, removable battery that looks like it will be out of warranty maintainable.

And yes the internal routing is not imho a selling point.

I'm not sure that this will help, but I've got a Focus Jam2 6.9, which has never missed a beat in 2 years. Paint finish and assembly is good, Frame bearings still fine, no problems with the internal cable routing, 1500 miles in the North of England and still on the original cassette (alternating 2 chains). DT wheels still perfect. It has a Bosch motor and I didn't buy the bike locally, but the local dealer said he would handle any warranty issues. A pal has a Jam2 6.8 which is about 6 months older. Unfortunately his motor failed after a huge rock strike (which broke the casing!). £400 for a recon motor at his local dealer (Colne). No other issues. I'd have another, but I think I'd want a Bosch motor.

I'm in New Zealand and you see a fair few of the bigger focus ebikes around Rotorua, I think one of the local shops hires them out .

I really liked the look of the light weight focus ebikes , seemed good value ( by today's standards ) but that cable routing is just over the top . Having said that most new bikes I get , get a new bar and stem straight away so I suppose once it's done it's done and you've only got to worry about the headset bearing ones .

I’ve got a Jarifa - zero useful documentation available but Focus do respond to email with part numbers although they always say go through dealer obv. My local dealer has gone bust though. Bike has been reliable and the Bosch motor faultless for coming up 3 years and about 3500 miles. Headset was made of cheese though and I replaced it with a Superstar Components one. Build quality is so so, charging point in the frame is not fitted very well and paint job has the odd blemish. Also the battery cover hides what would be a very useful button which shows  the state of the battery via the LEDs if only I could press it. Overall, for the money it was a good buy. I cannot for the life of me find a rear through axle replacement though.
