Following on from the Kona DOPE thread, whatever happened to floating brake calipers? I remember a time when they were the next big thing in suspension design.

Short answer I believe is "platform shocks".

They were about as good as flex stems.

Rose joints that size didnt last long.

Mind my mate being chuffed his 222 had one...when it cracked and they repaired it 3 months later he asked for the floater to be take off.

Brother has them on his kart, work perfectly well for that particular application.

I used to have a Trek Diesel like this (man, it looks so dated now!)

Mine didn't have the floating caliper and arm, or that up and over chain pulley thing.

I can't remember ever experiencing brake Jack like i was told I might. It had a fair bit of pedal feedback though. Sold it and got an Intense M1.....Or maybe the other way around... โ“
