I'm no expert, but I believe the big link is HTML, for adding the pic to web pages and the like (It works if you add it to an Ebay page, selecting the HTML option when making the listing), where the shorter one is just a link for use in places like this ๐Ÿ™‚

Install Firefox, then Greasemonkey and then this script http://www.stewartpratt.com/?p=88.

It will create a Phorumr link when click on the different sizes with link back keeping within terms of flickr.

STW changed the forum security so the HTML link that flickr say you should use wont work, you need to use option '2. Grab the photo's URL:' and use the IMG and URL buttons above to post it. Or install things like Drac said.

All you have to to is right click in the image you want to post. select copy image location. In the forum reply/post box where you put your post click the img button. Paste the just cpoied url (if the image) and click OK - there you have it!

What i've always done is right click the pic, select properties and the image location is in there! copy and paste on here using the [ img] [ /img] and voila!

Thats only an issue if the site you post on is getting massive hit rates, not an issue on this forum really.

But your suppose to make the picture link back to flickr... ie when you click the picture if takes you to the collection or set. Otherwise, as Drac says, you are breaching the terms.

I do like it when people post properly tho. If your posting a pic in response to a topic (like show me your niche bike) then its nice to link back to your gallery so people can see the other pics of your bike (assuming youve got more than one pic and have organised them into sets). its much better than posting tons of pics of the same thing in a thread and making it a pain to read/load.

Of course you can manipulate the code and have the pic link to somewhere else, like this..

my pic that i posted in Simon Ralli's 365 Group, linked back to the group rather than the pic :0)

Really? I do that all the time... How do you create a picture which is a clickable link to the gallery? I'd rather do that anyway on the whole...

How do you create a picture which is a clickable link to the gallery?

Post an image as normal (using the [ Img ] tag) and then select the entire thing and click the URL button, its brings up a pop-up into which you paste the web address for the page you want the image to link to. Simple.

should look like this...

[ url= http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2429/3983421140_5622a8e312_m.jp g" target="_blank">http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2429/3983421140_5622a8e312_m.jp g"/> [/img ][/url]

Perhaps I am being thick here. If I go to my photostream on flikr the URL comes up as http://www.flickr.com/photos/27123179@N02/ which doesn't look the same as the posts above. Am I doing something wrong?

Captain, thats just the link to your gallery. Are you trying to post a pic? or a pic that links to your gallery?

Perhaps you don't want people to see the whole of your gallery? and you don't want to hide the rest of your galleries - then how does your flickr gallery remain annonymous?

Any yes you are supposed to link back but really - haw many people bother - not many to my knowledge - I have been using flickr on and off for 3 years and my account it fine - I have had no warnings - also whats to stop someone else from hotlinking your gallery photo and you getting blamed for it?

Well unless youve made it all private it can still show up in searches on Flickr.

That throws up a good question actually. If my image is set to 'private' can you still post it using [img] tags?

you can still find the flickr users ID from the photo's URL

From the URL youโ€™ve got take extract the image name (2177060015_258bcfaff9_m.jpg) and split it on the underscore. The first part is the photoID, the second part is the hash/salt and (if there) the third part the size (Full format: photoId_hash_size.jpg).

Now append that photoId to http://flickr.com/photo.gne?id= and *MAGIC* there you have it, the Original Flickr Photo URL (and the user)

Stato, no I wasn't trying to post anything, just trying to work out if that was my flikr URL as per your instructions on the earlier post. If that's wrong, how do I get my flikr URL?

Yeah that links to your gallery ok. I was (trying to) post instructions on how to make that link (to you gallery) a clicky image rather than just text. ie,

[url= http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2257/buddyicons/21705939@N06.jp g" target="_blank">http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2257/buddyicons/21705939@N06.jp g"/> ?1236534317#21705939@N06[/img][/url]

rather than just...

ok, so youve posted an image, thats the first step. Now, when you post an image it will look like this in phorum code...

[img] [/img ]

what you want to do is select that string of text from the first [img to the last /img] and then click the URL button at the top of the reply box. This will pop-up a window asking you to enter the URL, choose the URL you want to enter (say the page the picture came from) and paste it into the pop-up window, click ok, your done :0)
