I am just trying to finish my Kinesis Tripster AT off and have got to the back brake finally. I tried to screw the bolts in but they seem too long. Shimano reckons there should be 13mm of bolt once it's pushed through the frame mounts but this is 2cm or more. Any idea whether there should be spacers or am I missing something?

I think you need the right bolt length for your frame. The one that comes with the caliper is probably the longest one Shimano do, which is almost certainly not the right length for most frames.

Page 43 of

tells you how to work it out based on the thickness of your frame's mount.

SJS have the bolts on their website, but they rarely seem to be in stock. I took a hacksaw to the overly long one I had as a temporary way of getting the bike rideable (without the safety pin).

In my experience - based on several attempts to order the correct part - is that the size allocated to each of the bolt lengths refers to the thickness of the frame, where the bolt goes through.

The Shimano doc linked to above ( which I was unaware of) backs this up.

If you're in Sussex, pop into Freeborn bikes in Horsham, and Joe will help you out.

(Kinesis Racelight 4S disc, BTW)
