[#10127867]

I'm trying to refit some tubeless tires.

They were a bit tight when they came off but nothing too bad.

Now, I'm trying to get them back on and wondering if they are for a different size of wheel! They won't budge and I'm worried I'll break a lever.

Is it the got day making the wheel expand? (The tires have been inside.) Should I just try again in the morning?

Are you pushing the tyre bead into the centre of the rim, where it's a bit deeper? Often this can help.

Yep, have done that. Helped a little but not enough.

leave the tyres in the sun, and the rims in a cold area, try again some hours later... if possible... might help.... might not

if the heat affected metal parts that much your whole bike would go out of true constantly. Try some soapy water.

its certainly plausible to me.ย  My tent with alloy poles has to be tensioned very differently in hot weather - a difference of an inch or so compared to cold whether.ย  on a bike rim a difference of a few mm makes a big difference in how hard tyres are to fit.ย  I am sure someone on here knows the actual amounts a piece of aluminium alloy expands as temperature rises

edit - tried to use maths to work this out but I clearly can't add up..

but - unless you took the tyres off in a freezer and refitted them in an oven I don't think the expansion of aluminium under heat is going to swell the rim that much.

I stand by soap and water solution as a.. solution

I'm embarrassed to say that I resorted to the LBS.

Hopefully they'll be a bit easier to manage after being stretched on the rim for a while.
